Pierce & Tear Shredders

Engineered Waste Reduction Solutions for Demanding Industrial Operations

For over 90 years, BloApCo has helped manufacturers, converters, printers, distribution centers, and recycling operations solve one of the most persistent challenges in industrial environments: efficient waste handling.

BloApCo’s Platinum Series uses exclusively proprietary Pierce-and-Tear shredding technology, which was engineered not simply to destroy material but to improve the entire waste-reduction process — reducing handling costs, improving downstream processing, increasing compaction efficiency, and creating cleaner, safer, and more productive operations.

Other Shredders

  • Safety overweight plate

  • Custom safety features

  • High throughput

  • Operating noise levels

  • Low/no dust generation

  • Low spark/fire hazard

Unlike other shredding techniques, BloApCo’s low-speed, high-torque shredding process slowly pulls, pierces, and tears material into manageable pieces with remarkably low dust, low noise, and reduced energy consumption.

The result is controlled, efficient material reduction designed for continuous industrial operation.

Why BloApCo

Proven Waste Reduction Economics

Over decades of real-world operation, BloApCo Pierce-and-Tear shredding systems have helped customers:

Reduce haul-away costs

Improve compaction efficiency

Increase bale density

Reduce manual handling

Automate waste flow

Improve housekeeping

Reduce downtime

Reclaim valuable floor space

In many applications, customers achieve dramatic reductions in waste transportation volume and operational handling costs after implementing a properly engineered shredding system. The goal is not simply to shred waste. The goal is to create a more efficient, safer, and more economical waste handling operation.

Today, BloApCo continues to engineer Pierce-and-Tear shredding systems built around the same principle that has defined the company for generations: Solving industrial waste handling challenges through intelligent, durable, application-engineered systems.

A Different Philosophy of Shredding

BloApCo Pierce-and-Tear shredders utilize multiple counter-rotating shafts operating at different speeds to efficiently grip, pull, and tear material through a controlled shredding process. This patented shredding philosophy delivers major operational advantages over conventional high-speed systems:

Lower Dust

The slow-speed tearing action minimizes airborne particles and fines, helping maintain cleaner work environments while reducing dependence on extensive dust collection systems.

Lower Noise

Typical BloApCo shredders operate at below 80 dB without additional sound-reduction equipment, creating safer and more comfortable operating environments.

Lower Energy Consumption

Because material is pulled and torn rather than aggressively cut or pulverized, BloApCo shredders often require significantly less horsepower than competing technologies processing similar materials.

Reduced Fire & Safety Risks

The low-speed tearing process dramatically reduces heat generation, sparks, and material throw-out, while integrated overload protection and automatic reversing systems help minimize operator intervention and unsafe jam-clearing procedures.

Long-Term Reliability

Heavy-duty construction, intelligent load management, simple mechanical designs, and decades of refinement deliver dependable continuous-duty performance with minimal maintenance requirements.

Many BloApCo shredders built decades ago remain in operation today.

Advanced Shredder Design Features

Heavy-duty construction, intelligent monitoring, and customizable configurations work together to deliver consistent shredding performance across demanding industrial operations.

Intelligent Protection & Load Management

BloApCo shredders continuously monitor shredding loads and automatically reverse the shafts when overloaded to clear jams and protect the drivetrain from damage. This intelligent self-monitoring system minimizes downtime while helping prevent catastrophic failures.

Integrated overload sensing monitors motor amperage and reacts immediately when excessive loads occur, protecting shafts, gearboxes, and drive components during demanding applications.
Available for difficult materials and high-impact applications, this enhanced reverse logic prevents unnecessary reversing during short surges of material, improving throughput and maintaining shredding momentum.

Heavy-Duty Shaft & Bearing Systems

BloApCo’s proprietary ripper wheels perform the controlled piercing and tearing action that defines the Pierce-and-Tear shredding process. Multiple wheel profiles are available to optimize performance for different materials and waste streams.
Depending on the application, shredders can be configured with standard ball bearings or heavy-duty spherical roller bearings for increased durability, higher shredding forces, and improved shaft alignment under continuous loading conditions.
BloApCo offers both economical stub shaft configurations for lighter applications and solid one-piece shafts for severe-duty environments where maximum durability and drivetrain alignment are critical.

High-Volume Material Handling Features

Designed for oversized corrugated containers and bulky packaging waste, optional box crushers aggressively collapse tall boxes before shredding, eliminating the need for manual breakdown and increasing operator efficiency.
Additional ripper shafts can be integrated for high-volume or oversized materials to eliminate bridging and improve material flow into the shredding chamber.
For applications requiring more aggressive tearing action, shaft speed ratios can be adjusted to improve shredding performance on materials such as cores, slab waste, pallets, and printing scrap.
Optional internal rake bars provide additional tearing surfaces within the shredder body to improve material reduction performance on difficult or lightweight materials such as folding carton stock.

Conveyor & Feeding Systems

BloApCo shredders utilize integrated feed conveyor systems that safely and efficiently deliver material into the shredding chamber while maintaining proper material flow and operator safety.
Every BloApCo rubber belt conveyor system includes a mechanical safety drop plate designed to immediately disengage the conveyor drive and stop the shredder if excessive weight or unsafe conditions are detected.
Optional sweep plates create a smooth transition between floor level and the conveyor infeed, improving loading efficiency for bulky or small loose materials.

Integrated Waste Handling & Discharge Solutions

Engineered discharge plenums ensure efficient evacuation of shredded material into pneumatic conveying systems while maintaining smooth airflow and material transfer characteristics.
Piggyback shredder systems can be equipped with custom discharge chutes to provide surge capacity and controlled feeding into balers, compactors, or downstream equipment.
High-eye monitoring systems automatically pause the infeed conveyor if material begins backing up in the discharge chute, preventing jams and maintaining continuous system operation.

Controls & Electrical Configurations

BloApCo shredders are available with multiple industrial-grade control cabinet configurations for indoor or outdoor installations, including NEMA 12 and NEMA 4 enclosures for demanding environments.
Remote-mounted control cabinets improve accessibility, operator safety, and system integration within larger waste handling installations.
UL-approved electrical control panels are available to meet local code requirements and customer specifications.

More Than a Standalone Shredder

BloApCo has never approached shredding as an isolated machine.

Our shredders are commonly integrated into comprehensive waste-handling systems that improve material flow, automate processes, and reduce operational costs throughout the facility.
